Via Nano machines Q1 2009?
Sunday, 16 November 2008

I got back yesterday night from Electronica 2008 (Munich, Germany) where I had been investigating Embedded computers including SBCs, COMs, PICMG etc.
VIA were very much in evidence with several boards on display.
What caught my eye though was the VIA Nano processor (announced in May 2008) leaflets, a biggish size board with the processor and a display and the VIA VB8001 Mini-ITX Nano Board.
I had a chat with the people at the stall as it was part of my investigation and I was also curious why we have not yet seen any machines (netbook or otherwise) shipping with the processor on board and although Mini-ITX boards should really be available, I have not seen any of those yet either.
After chatting to them about the Nano, they confirmed that they were still aiming the processor at a consumer market,
all the while trying to sell me the Mini-ITX board. I asked if it would be possible to obtain the processor only for "solutions", i.e. meaning for developments other than boards, I was told this would be available in March 2009.
Does that mean we will actually see some machines/netbooks using the processor around Q1/Q2 2009?![]()
