The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams - My Thoughts/Review

I do not usually read Science Fiction books, let alone ones with as much humour as The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. But I do remember reading The Hitchhiker's Quartet in high school, kindly lent to me by Euan Hiddleston as I remember.
As part of my drive to read the best 100 novels this one was a must. Sadly it is a very short book and was finished with very quickly. However I'd like to think I gained some more insight in Adam's wit from this reading than the first. Some of the humour came across more easily. This may be due partly to the fact that I fell in love with comedy a few years ago. Comedy on TV, stand up comedy nights at the Union, comedy in life. It's a great way to enjoy life and a great stress reliever.

As usual I move away from the book. I do not really have a lot to say about this one. It is an enjoyable read but it lacks impact. The humour and wit is welcome and the style of writing flows easily. This is one of the major factors influencing my thoughts of the book. I was not really able to pay any attention to what I was reading. I could not grasp the finer points of the writing. This does not mean it is a poor book. In fact this is exactly what makes the book so enjoyable. It is comedy at it's best. We do not always get the in depth jokes and when we do get them it is never as enjoyable. We always seem to get the crude jokes better and in my experience everybody loves them. The Hitchhiker's Guide is like a crude joke in this respect and as such very well written to be able to convey this analogy.
Maybe I should read some Pratchett...

Next time round Pride and Prejudice. I am being a bit slow on this one so might be a while in coming.

Via Nano machines Q1 2009?

I got back yesterday night from Electronica 2008 (Munich, Germany) where I had been investigating Embedded computers including SBCs, COMs, PICMG etc.

VIA were very much in evidence with several boards on display.
What caught my eye though was the VIA Nano processor (announced in May 2008) leaflets, a biggish size board with the processor and a display and the VIA VB8001 Mini-ITX Nano Board.
I had a chat with the people at the stall as it was part of my investigation and I was also curious why we have not yet seen any machines (netbook or otherwise) shipping with the processor on board and although Mini-ITX boards should really be available, I have not seen any of those yet either.
After chatting to them about the Nano, they confirmed that they were still aiming the processor at a consumer market,
all the while trying to sell me the Mini-ITX board. I asked if it would be possible to obtain the processor only for "solutions", i.e. meaning for developments other than boards, I was told this would be available in March 2009.
Does that mean we will actually see some machines/netbooks using the processor around Q1/Q2 2009?

Music - Wisnu - Nothing left of me / Aaron Sledge - Hold on

Wisnu - Nothing Left of Me

This has that classic catchy chorus. You may not like it the first couple of times you hear it but it is one of the best songs I've heard recently.

Aaron Sledge - Hold on
A nice song with uplifting chorus, from earlier this year.
